Ritchie appoints consultants to approve masterplan for Downpatrick

Monday, 23 February 2009

Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie has today appointed consultants to prepare a masterplan for Downpatrick town centre.

Consultants will advise on transportation, access and parking changes for the town. They will also identify key town centre sites and make recommendations on their development.

Speaking about the appointment, the Minister said: “The investment in the Masterplan will be a major boost for the regeneration of Downpatrick. It will help guide the town through the challenges of the current economic climate.

I want the masterplan to encourage further private sector development within the town centre. It will help provide attractive, shared spaces for residents, tourists and support local businesses to transform this historic town.”

Work will commence this month and is due to be completed in August 2009.
