Latest funding for Ballyclare announced by Minister Ritchie
Monday, 19 January 2009Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA today announced funding for a Homework Club at Ballyclare Secondary School.
The Department for Social Development will fund 50% of the staff costs associated with this programme with Ballyclare Secondary School meeting the remaining 50%.
Speaking about the announcement the Minister said: “I am pleased to support this continuation funding in the Ballyclare Neighbourhood Renewal Area which will allow children the opportunity to do their homework in a more conducive environment with access to computer facilities and guidance from teaching staff.”
The project will operate until 31 March 2011 and will build on a successful pilot scheme, which operated from April 2007 until June 2008 and was 100% funded by DSD. This programme will allow the children from the Grange/Thornhill estate to attend a safe quiet and academic environment to do their homework with the availability of school computers.
