Ritchie launches Warm Homes Scheme
Wednesday, 29 July 2009Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie today launched the new Warm Homes Scheme in Northern Ireland
The Warm Homes Scheme is the Department’s primary tool in tackling fuel poverty. The scheme has been refocused and will target people on low incomes who need help to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. In particular, the scheme will target householders in receipt of a qualifying benefit with no central heating, solid fuel heating, Economy 7 or Liquid Petroleum Gas heating.
Margaret Ritchie said: “Since its introduction in 2001, over 70,000 homes across Northern Ireland have benefited from a range of measures which have significantly improved their energy efficiency.
“I want to do everything in my power to champion the rights of the vulnerable and those in poverty. I want to target resources in a way which has maximum impact within our communities.”
Following a successful tendering process, H&A Mechanical Services Ltd and Bryson Charitable Group have been appointed the new Warm Homes Scheme managers by the Department for Social Development.
