Omagh Town Centre Development Sites
Tuesday, 29 June 2010The Department for Social Development (DSD) has commissioned a team of specialists, headed by The Paul Hogarth Company – a firm of Landscape Architects and Urban Designers – to assess the development potential of a number of opportunity sites within Omagh town centre.
These sites, which comprise existing surface car parks along Kevlin Avenue and Dublin Road owned by DSD and the Department for Regional Development (DRD), have been identified within the Omagh Masterplan as having potential for mixed use development. The car parking requirements for each opportunity site will include replacement parking for that lost to the redevelopment as well as the requirement to service any new floorspace.
Based on the findings of an initial feasibility study, a series of Development Briefs may be produced by the specialist team for these sites which reflect the principles established within both the Omagh Visioning Framework 2025 and Omagh Masterplan. These Development Briefs will then form part of a formal regenerative package which will be offered out to tender. It is envisaged that a phased approach will be applied to the roll out of the development sites and will include in depth consultation with local stakeholders.
Alastair McKane, Deputy Director of DSD’s Regional Development Office said: “The primary objective of the Development Briefs is to assist in guiding future development and investment within Omagh Town Centre ensuring that any proposals create a high quality environment which maximises the regenerative benefits for Omagh residents, business sector and visitors.”
