Five convicted of benefit fraud at Lisburn court

Five people were convicted at Lisburn Magistrates’ court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

A Lisburn man claimed Income Support totalling £374 while failing to declare employment. He was given a conditional discharge for 2 years and ordered to pay court costs of £25.

A Lisburn woman claimed Income Support totalling £2,475 while failing to declare employment. She was given a conditional discharge for 2 years and ordered to pay court costs of £28.

A Dunmurry woman claimed Income Support totalling £9,164 while failing to declare employment. She was given 450 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £34.

Another Lisburn man claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Rates Relief totalling £2,274 while failing to declare employment. He was given 300 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £43.

A Dunmurry man claimed Jobseekers Allowance totalling £6,746 while failing to declare employment. He was given a 4 month prison sentence suspended for 2 years and ordered to pay court costs of £40.

All are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
