Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland met with the Village Community Design Team to look at new designs for homes in the Village area in South Belfast.
The Design Team is made up of members of the local community and plays an active part in designing and planning new homes in the area. The Team has agreed phase 1 and 2 of the new build scheme, a total of 77 new homes. These will be built to a minimum of Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, providing high quality, energy efficient homes. Fold Housing Association will now submit their planning application and aim to be on site next spring.
Nelson McCausland said: “The new homes in the Village will be some of the most energy efficient in Northern Ireland. This is vital in the fight against fuel poverty.
“I would like to commend the Community Design Team for their hard work to date and encourage them to play an active role in the future. I would also like to thank the local community for their perseverance. It has taken some time to get to where we are today but having viewed the plans for the area, the wait has been worthwhile.”
The Village Community Design Team is chaired by Michael Hegarty, Director of PLACE (The Northern Ireland Architecture and Built Environment Centre). The Team has been actively involved with Fold Housing Association and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive in planning the new homes for the Village.
