Strabane woman convicted of benefit fraud

A woman was convicted at Dungannon County court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

She claimed Income Support totalling £2,586 while failing to declare she had a partner. On 11 February 2011 she was given a three month prison sentence and released on £500 bail pending appeal.

On 29 June 2011 her conviction was reduced to a four month prison sentence suspended for three years. She was ordered to pay court costs of £49.

She will also have to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
