Funding of over £20,000 for Health and Wellbeing in Coleraine- Ritchie

Tuesday, 24 March 2009

Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie MLA today announced a funding boost of £20,140.00 for a Health & Wellbeing project for residents of Churchlands, Coleraine.

The aim of the programme is to provide complementary therapy treatments including podiatry, reflexology and Bi-Aura to local residents in the Churchlands Neighbourhood Renewal Area of the town.

Speaking about her announcement Margaret Ritchie said: “This programme will complement existing health provision in the area and will ultimately promote the personal and social development of people in the Churchlands area. I welcome the funding for this very worthwhile project through my department’s Neighbourhood Renewal Fund."

"I want to target resources in a way that gives maximum impact and I want to work with communities to achieve that. By supporting this project it will not only bring about improvements to local residents’ quality of life, but it will also promote the values of self reliance and social cohesion in this area of Coleraine.”

The programme will build upon a pilot project carried out by West Bann Development in 2005 to tackle the health related issues of the local residents and will attract a cross section of the community.
