Three convicted of Benefit Fraud at Londonderry Courts

Two people were convicted at Londonderry Magistrates’ Court and one at Londonderry Crown Court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

The first was given a two year conditional discharge for failure to declare employment while claiming Income Support totalling £3,472.

The second was given a three month sentence suspended for 18 months for failure to declare employment while claiming Income Support and Housing benefit totalling £10,889.

And the third was given a 15 month sentence suspended for three years for failure to declare capital while claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £45,698.

All are required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 99 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
