Opportunity to review Andersonstown Site

Thursday, 4 October 2007

Minister for Social Development Margaret Ritchie today said she would take time to consider the way forward for the former Andersonstown PSNI site, as she announced that the Carvill Group has decided to withdraw its proposals to develop the site.

She said: “I have been informed by the Carvill Group that, with regret, they have decided to withdraw their proposal to develop the site of the former Andersonstown PSNI station. The Carvill Group indicated that the potential for significant delay in getting their proposals agreed and through the planning system would have a detrimental knock-on effect on their other development plans.”

The Minister continued:“I am disappointed that the Carvill Group now feel that they are unable to go forward with their proposals. I would like to thank the Carvill Group for their interest in the site. In our efforts to regenerate areas which suffer from deprivation and physical dereliction, the contribution of the private sector is a significant factor and it is disappointing that this investment proposal has been lost.

“I will now consider the matter further before making a decision on the way forward and I will be exploring every possible option. It is important to ensure that we achieve the best possible outcome.”
