Attwood wants to build houses on former SSA site In West Belfast
Friday, 24 September 2010Social Development Minister, Alex Attwood MLA, today announced that he would like to build new family homes on the site of the former Andersonstown Social Security Office.
The West Belfast site has been vacant since the Social Security Office relocated from Slieveban Drive to new premises on the Falls Road earlier this year.
The site is not owned by his Department. Given the level of housing need in West Belfast, Minister Attwood would like it to be transferred to him for housing.
Visiting the site today, Minister Attwood said: "This site, in the heart of West Belfast, would be an excellent location for much needed family housing. If I can secure it I will talk directly to local people on what sort of housing they want to see being put onto this site, and how we can go about delivering this.
"I have the resources available. The potential is there to build around twenty homes at this location and I have already looked at some innovative designs."
