Kilrea woman convicted of benefit fraud

A woman was convicted of benefit fraud at Coleraine Magistrates’ court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.

The Kilrea woman claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £9,361 while failing to declare capital. She was given a four month custodial sentence on each of the two charges to run currently, suspended for two years. She was also ordered to pay court costs of £85.

She will also have to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
