The First Minister highlighted the strong leadership, skills and experience brought to Ilex by Sir Roy, saying that: “Sir Roy has made a telling and lasting contribution to the economic, social and physical regeneration of the city, particularly through the opening of the new Peace Bridge linking the Waterside with the city centre and the publication of the ‘One City, One Plan, One Voice’ vision for its future. I thank him for the energy and commitment he has shown and wish him continued success.”

The deputy First Minister reflected that as a citizen of the city, he was able to see the benefits to the community, of the efforts delivered under Sir Roy’s leadership. He said: ‘Sir Roy has played a key role in focussing the work of Ilex and using his experience to draw together and work with key stakeholders. Much has been achieved under his leadership including securing the award of City of Culture 2013, yet there is still a great deal of work to be done in fulfilling the vision for the city. He has left a great legacy and built solid foundations for others to build on. I thank him for his efforts.”
