Donaldson acknowledges important work of Muscular Dystrophy Campaign

Tuesday, 10 February 2009

Junior Minister Jeffery Donaldson has acknowledged the work of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign in their efforts to promote understanding of the disease in Northern Ireland.

Speaking at the launch of their new campaign, ‘Building on the Foundations in Northern Ireland’ Mr Donaldson said: “Muscular Dystrophy is a very distressing illness that has a deeply debilitating and progressive effect on sufferers and their families. It is hard for many of us to imagine the impact that a diagnosis of the disease can have. However, thanks to the hard work of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign awareness of this disease has been significantly raised throughout Northern Ireland.

“The Campaign is also funding research that contributes to the knowledge and understanding of neuromuscular conditions and their possible treatments. The twin strands of practical actions and the support of world class research provide a significant contribution to the understanding of Muscular Dystrophy and the care of sufferers.

“I know that the work of the Campaign will continue to benefit sufferers and their families across Northern Ireland.”
