Robinson and McGuinness: Peace is the only way forward

Thursday, 25 February 2010

First Minister Rt.Hon. Peter D. Robinson MP MLA and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness MP MLA have said that violence will not disrupt or divert the peace process.

Speaking following last night's horrific murder, the Ministers extended their sympathy to the family of the deceased man and said they would not be swayed from the course they have set out upon and that peace and stability represents the only way forward.

Mr Robinson said: "I am sickened and disgusted at this murder, there is no place in our society for the people who committed this evil act. I remain determined as ever to condemn these acts to the history books and to help build a safe and peaceful society."

Mr McGuinness said: "I am shocked at the cowardly murder that took place in Derry last night. I would call on anyone with any knowledge of this attack to come forward to the police. In the face of such an attack, we must unite as a society and in our outright condemnation. We will not be deflected from the work we are engaged in."
