Robinson welcomes trial lawyers to Stormont

Wednesday, 16 June 2010

First Minister Rt Hon Peter D. Robinson MLA has welcomed some of the world’s most influential trial lawyers to Stormont.

The International Academy of Trial Lawyers are visiting Northern Ireland to examine at first hand the success of the Rule of Law here.

Mr Robinson said: "It is a privilege to welcome to Stormont some of the world’s best trial lawyers.

"I am pleased that such an elite group has taken the time to come here to understand the peculiar challenges that we face here in Northern Ireland. I look forward to hearing their thoughts on our legal system and the administration of justice here."

The Academy is a group of elite trial lawyers representing both sides of the Bar: prosecutors and defence lawyers in criminal cases, and plaintiffs and defence counsel in civil litigation. The Academy includes lawyers from more than 30 countries.

The Academy's purposes are to promote reforms in the law, facilitate the Administration of Justice, promote the Rule of Law internationally and elevate the standards of integrity, honour and courtesy in the legal profession.
