OFMDFM Consultation on Sustainable Development Strategy

Friday, 13 November 2009

Public meetings are being held on a proposed new Sustainable Development Strategy.

The aim of the Sustainable Development Strategy is to identify and develop actions that will improve the quality of life for ourselves and for future generations. The goal is to put in place economic, social and environmental measures to ensure that we can continue to grow our economy, improve our society and communities and utilise our natural resources in an environmentally sustainable manner. The strategy will also help strengthen the framework in which global issues such as climate change can be tackled.

A spokesperson for the Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister said: “The Strategy is called ‘Everyone’s Involved’, reflecting our belief that achieving sustainability will require the support of everyone. That’s why we want as many people as possible to attend these public meetings – to get the widest possible range of views on how we tackle these issues.”

The strategy is on the OFMDFM website and copies are available from the Sustainable Development Unit email: everyones.involved@ofmdfmni.gov.uk or telephone 028 9052 8378.

The schedule of public meetings can be accessed here.
