O’Neill concerned by Russian Import ban
Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill today commented on the import ban imposed by Russia on EU agri food produce.
~ Friday, 8 August 2014
She said: "This politically motivated import ban by Russia on EU agri food produce is an unfortunate turn of events. My Department works hard to open new markets to help grow our agri food sector. Russia represents a market of particular interest to our meat exporters, particularly pork producers. This ban could have potentially greater implications for the future growth of our exports given we may be unable to progress negotiations as we had hoped.
"My Department will keep a watching brief on the issue, keep exporters apprised of the Russian trade restrictions and continue to support them in exporting to other countries ."
Notes to editors:
- Russia has imposed a ban on a range of food commodities including meat, dairy and fish exports from the European Union, United States and other western countries. This will be in place for a year.
