21 August 2008 - Two convicted of benefit fraud at Bangor court

Two people were convicted at Bangor Magistrates’ Court yesterday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Edmund Walsh (65) of Wood Green, Bangor claimed Disability Living Allowance totalling £1,068 with exaggerated incapacity. He was fined £100 and ordered to pay court costs of £25.

Ernest Monaghan (43) of Spencer Street, Holywood claimed Income Support and Carers Allowance totalling £1,912 while failing to declare he was working full time. He was fined £300.

Both are also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

This brings to 284 the total number of successful prosecutions this year.
