Gildernew performs official opening of new GAA junior pitch
Monday, 2 August 2010Minister Michelle Gildernew MP MLA has officially opened the new junior pitch at Brookeboro Gaelic Athletic Club (GAC) in County Fermanagh.
The superb new playing and training facility has been developed for junior members of the club, complimenting the existing senior set-up.
Speaking at the opening, the Minister said: "It is always very satisfying to see months of hard work and initiative come to fruition, and the opening of this new pitch must be great moment of pride for Brookeboro GAC. I know the club is fully embedded in the local community, contributing positively to the provision of sport at all levels.
"The new pitch represents a great investment not only in the club’s future but for the future of the wider community. The Gaelic Athletic Association have a long tradition of playing a central role in rural life for many communities across the island and I commend them for their all their good work over the years."
The Minister added: "Sport is vital for bonding people in rural areas. It helps to address isolation, builds community cohesion and provides a much needed focus for rural communities, as well as making for better health and a better quality of life. It is something which I as Minister responsible for rural development am glad to support."
