Launching the Code on Paul O’Hagan’s farm near Moneymore, DARD’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Malcolm McKibbin said: “The new Code is a source of practical advice for anyone involved in farming activities. It describes practical management techniques that can be used to minimise the risk of pollution.
"Farming activities have the potential to cause pollution of water, air and soil. I therefore strongly encourage all farmers to follow the guidelines within the ‘Code’.
"The ‘Code’ has been substantially revised and updated following an extensive consultation process, in particular to take account of recent changes in legislation which have been introduced and implemented to protect the environment since the last publication in 2003."
Dr McKibbin concluded: “The Challenge is simple – the sustainable use of natural resources, through reducing any negative impact of agricultural activities on our water, air and soil.”
