05 August 2008 - Gildernew discusses Rural Sustainability with NIFDA

Minister Michelle Gildernew MP, MLA has met with the Northern Ireland Food and Drink Association's (NIFDA) newly appointed Chairman Richard Moore.

Speaking after the meeting, the Minister said: “NIFDA play a valuable role in bringing together the local food processing sector and I was very keen to meet directly with Richard to hear of the challenges that the industry currently face.

“During our discussions we covered a range of issues and I stressed the agri-food industry’s significant contribution to the local economy. This industry is the largest private sector employer here and plays an important role in the sustainability of our rural communities. By working together, with the mutual respect of all stakeholders, we can continue to become internationally competitive. I wish Richard well in his new role as chair of NIFDA and look forward to working with him in the future.”
