Agriculture Minister meets senior management of Randox Laboratories
Monday, 8 February 2010Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Michelle Gildernew MP, MLA, has met with representatives of Randox Laboratories to hear their concerns about a proposed incineration plant at Glenavy, County Antrim.
Speaking after the meeting with the company’s Chief Executive, Dr Peter Fitzgerald, and senior manager, Mark Campbell, the Minister said: "I recognise that the proposal to build an incinerator at the Glenavy site is a contentious issue.
"I understand Randox Laboratories concerns about the potential impact which the proposed plant could have on their business operations, their employees and on animal health in the surrounding area. I am also aware that other concerns exist throughout the area. For that reason I remain in favour of a public enquiry to examine in detail the views of all those potentially affected by the proposal.
"My ministerial responsibilities span both poultry farmers who have poultry litter to dispose of and those who live in the Glenavy area and the concerns of all must be considered."
