Mr Kelly was convicted in his absence and fined £1,000 plus £34 costs.

Notes to Editors:

  1. Mr Kelly was convicted of one charge of contravening Article 3(2)(b) of the Tuberculosis (Examination and Testing) Scheme Order (NI) 1999, by failing, upon request by an authorised officer of the Department of Agriculture, to present all animals in his charge for tuberculosis testing, contrary to Article 52(1)(a) of the Diseases of Animals (NI) Order 1981.
  2. The control of Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) is dependent on identifying reactor animals at tests conducted by the Department. Failure to present animals for tests seriously undermines efforts by both farmers and the Department to reduce the incidence of disease.
