17 June 2009 - DARD Minister welcomes £600k for fishing industry

Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew MP, MLA told the Assembly today that the sea fishing industry is to benefit from £600K of aid in the coming weeks.

The Minister said "The scheme which I proposed and which was approved by the Executive in December last will be of great benefit to the industry at a time when it is facing many pressures.

"I am pleased at the welcome the scheme received from Members when it was laid before the Assembly today. It will also be much appreciated by all in the industry. I will continue to do all I can to support the fishing industry and take what measures are possible to make it competitive. I will be bringing forward further measures through the EU fisheries fund to further support the industry.

"Those who qualify for the aid I announced today should receive their money by the end of July."
