After the meeting Minister Gildernew said: “This network change programme will have implications for the whole rural population across the north, particularly the more vulnerable members of the community.
“Although Post Offices is not a devolved matter I am seeking assurances that change is necessary, and if it is, that the impact is fully considered before implementation. This meeting has provided me with an opportunity to ensure that Postwatch, the consumer watchdog, was fully aware of the concerns of the rural community and we discussed issues such as the length of the consultation period, the proposed outreach services and what happens beyond 2011.”
The Minister added that: “I would urge everyone to contribute to the public consultation process and make your views known about the potential impact on rural communities.”
