Minister Gildernew attends launch of the 2009/10 Taste of Ulster Guide

Tuesday, 11 August 2009

Minister Michelle Gildernew MP MLA has attended the official launch of the 2009/10 Taste of Ulster Guide in the Great Hall at Queen’s University, Belfast.

Speaking at the launch event, the Minister said: “I am very aware of the importance of Taste of Ulster and their vision to develop and celebrate excellence in local cuisine and hospitality. Their efforts help ensure consumer confidence throughout the north of Ireland, whilst contributing significantly to food tourism and supporting our agri-food industry.

“It is very encouraging to see initiatives like the Taste of Ulster grow from strength to strength. They not only promote local food but also provide a significant boost to the rural economy and local communities.

“At a time when the north is attracting new tourists, the Guide will help them find places to dine that celebrate the attributes and values of our local food and drink.”

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has provided financial assistance to Taste of Ulster for the 2009/10 Guide from the Regional Food Programme.
