Gildernew confirms plans to re-open Agri-Environment Schemes in 2010

Friday, 14 August 2009

Minister Michelle Gildernew MP, MLA has announced that the Countryside Management Scheme (CMS) and Organic Farming Scheme (OFS) will re-open to applications in early 2010.

Confirming the plans, the Minister said: “Earlier this year around 1,000 farmers signed up to these schemes. Many more will have the opportunity to apply next year. Both the Countryside Management and Organic Farming schemes offer farmers the chance to manage their land for environmental benefit.

“In 2008, all CMS applications were prioritised on the basis of environmental benefit. As a result around 3,500 eligible applicants did not have their application progressed. If you are one such applicant, you will be contacted by my Department to let you know that your application will be automatically resubmitted in 2010.

“If the scheme is oversubscribed these applications, along with any new ones, will be subjected to a prioritisation process as before.”

The Countryside Management Scheme (CMS) and Organic Farming Scheme (OFS) are elements of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013, funded under the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).
