Commenting on the report, the Minister said: “My position in relation to continuing imports of Brazilian beef is clear, any beef imported to EU Members States should be able to satisfy the animal health, welfare and hygiene standards that are currently required from our local industry. I have expressed my opinion on this issue to both DEFRA Ministers and Minister Coughlan.
“While I wish that stronger controls had been put in place now, this report is a step in the right direction. I welcome this further EU report on the Brazilian Beef industry and I hope that this level of scrutiny will continue.”
