23 July 2008 - Gildernew in Brussels Meetings

Minister Michelle Gildernew, MP MLA, has held a series of meetings in Brussels on a range of key issues.

During her visit to Brussels the Minister met with Lene Naesager, a member of Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel’s Cabinet. At the meeting she raised her concerns on a number of current issues, including, the Farm Nutrient Management Scheme, the EU authorisation of GM feed, the CAP Health Check and WTO issues.

At a separate meeting, the Minster met Rheinhard Priebe, Director of Atlantic fisheries in the Commissions Maritime and Fisheries Directorate. She took the opportunity at the meeting to discuss the Commissions approach to setting TAC (Total Allowable Catch) and quotas for Irish Sea stocks for 2009.

She also made him aware of the main issues for the local industry and expressed concern about the latest scientific advice which recommended a reduction in the nephrops quota.
