The Minister met with the Northern Ireland Meat Exporters’ Association (NIMEA) delegation at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), Loughry Campus. NIMEA was represented by Campbell Tweedie and Phelim O’Neill.
Following the meeting, the Minister said: “I have been increasingly concerned at the differential in recent prices being received by our beef farmers for finished cattle in Britain and the South and sought today’s meeting to explore the reasons behind it.”
“The meeting focused on the factors affecting beef prices throughout these islands and we discussed both the marketing opportunities and challenges faced by the industry.”
“It is in all our interests to ensure that everyone in the supply chain obtains the best possible returns and maintaining open and regular communication with the industry will help achieve this.”
