30 June 2008 - Re-appointment of Chair of the Northern Ireland Fishery Harbour Authority

The Department and Agriculture and Rural Development have announced the re-appointment of Margaret Andrews as the Chair of the Northern Ireland Fishery Harbour Authority (NIFHA).

Margaret Andrews, a businesswoman from Newry, has been re-appointed for a second term of office up to 29 June 2012.

Commenting on the appointment a DARD spokesperson said: “The Department is very pleased that Margaret Andrews has agreed to carry on at the helm of the Authority for another term. These are challenging times for the fishing sector and NIFHA. Margaret’s leadership skills, combined with her energy and expertise, will be invaluable in guiding the Authority and its Board as they continue to improve harbour services for the fishing industry.”

  1. The Northern Ireland Fishery Harbour Authority (NIFHA) is a statutory NDPB established under the Harbours Act (Northern Ireland) 1970 and the Northern Ireland Fishery Harbour Authority Order (Northern Ireland) 1973. The Authority has responsibility for the improvement, management and maintenance of the three fishery harbours at Ardglass, Kilkeel and Portavogie.
  2. The appointment is made under paragraph 5 (1) of the Northern Ireland Fishery Harbour Authority Order (Northern Ireland) 1973 and is in accordance with guidance issued by the Commissioner of Public Appointments.
  3. Ms Andrews does not hold any other Ministerial appointment, nor has she been involved in any political activities during the past five years.
  4. The post attracts an remuneration of £6,155 per annum.
