Gildernew applauds Forkhill women on communication qualification
Wednesday, 16 June 2010Minister Michelle Gildernew MP MLA today congratulated members of the Forkhill women’s centre on their successful completion of the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise's (CAFRE) Advanced Diploma for Personal and Business Communication.
The CAFRE diploma programme provides opportunities for men and women in rural areas to develop career skills.
The Minister had the opportunity to hear at first hand the experiences of the women who participated in the Personal and Business Communication programme when she visited the centre in South Armagh.
The Minister said: “This is a hugely beneficial and enjoyable learning experience. I am encouraged to see so many women from this rural area seeking to develop their communication skills and understanding of how to manage and lead change. This is exactly the type of programme that focuses on the real needs of rural communities and is representative of the way in which the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is delivering responsive programmes.”
Majella Murphy, Development officer Northern Ireland Rural Women’s Network (NIRWN) reflected on the course benefits. She said: “It has allowed many women to gain additional qualifications that are relevant to their career paths, and has bridged the gap between earlier qualifications and the requirements of the labour market today, allowing them to identify work and volunteer opportunities. Eight of our students have also expressed an interest in progressing to the Post Graduate Certificate in communication.”
