11 March 2008 - Red Meat Seminar – Minister disappointed at committee stance on attendance

Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Michelle Gildernew MP MLA has expressed her deep disappointment that the Agriculture Committee has turned down her offer to attend the Red Meat Seminar.

The Red Meat Seminar is to take place on Thursday 13 March 2008 and was organised by the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee.

The Minister said: “I made an offer to attend the seminar as I believe we all share a common concern about the future of our red meat industry. We need to work together to provide the best type of support to those farmers who are facing difficult decisions.

“It is therefore deeply disappointing that the Committee has turned down this offer. Clearly this move does not benefit farmers which is what this seminar should be about.

“DARD will continue to play its full role as a member of the Red Meat Task Force, in efforts to identify viable solutions, but we really need a collective effort on this issue.”
