27 March 2008 - Statistical reports on Northern Ireland agriculture

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) has released three statistical reports.

These are the ‘Statistical Review of Northern Ireland Agriculture 2007’, ‘Farm Incomes in Northern Ireland 2006/07’ and the ‘EU Farm Structure Survey 2007’.

The Statistical Review, which has been the main source of statistics on local agriculture for the last four decades, is the primary reference document for those involved in the agri-food sector. It contains a wide range of economic and physical data, which presents a comprehensive picture of 2007, and enables comparisons to be made with earlier years. Details of the components of the 2007 aggregate agricultural income figures, released in summary form on 31 January 2008, are included.

The ‘Farm Incomes’ report, the fifteenth in the series, is based on data collected from 349 farms in the annual Farm Business Survey. This report contains information on returns, costs, subsidies, borrowings, investments, and financial position for the main types of farm business here. There is also a section within the report devoted to the performance of individual farm enterprises. The figures in the report refer mainly to the 2006/07 account year which has an average year end of mid-February 2007.

The ‘Farm Structure Survey’ contains details on the age profile of farmers and the time spent working on and off the farm. Details of spouses and other labour are also presented along with breakdowns of other gainful activity and farm diversification.

Copies of all these reports are available to download from the Department's link to external website.
