Gildernew addresses Ulster Farmers' Union annual dinner

Friday, 20 March 2009

Minister Michelle Gildernew MP MLA has addressed members of the Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) at their annual dinner in the Culloden Hotel, Holywood.

Ahead of her address, the Minister discussed her good working relationship with the UFU. She said: “After almost two years in office I am very heartened that we have moulded and strengthened an excellent working relationship. This has proved invaluable at times of crisis, such as assisting our message to farmers over protection against bluetongue and the recent contaminated feed scare. We have also agreed to convene a cross-border event to bring together key stakeholders to discuss delivery of the all-island animal health and welfare strategy and the UFU have an important role to play in this.

“During the current economic downturn it is vital that all of us continue to work closely together to ensure our industry achieves the best possible outcomes at this time.“
