15 May 2008 - Farmer's appeal against jail sentence dismissed at Dungannon County Court

Dungannon County Court today dismissed the appeal of Mr David Reid, Tannaghlane Road, Caledon, Co Tyrone.

He appealed against his two month jail sentence imposed on 10 March 2008 for an offence of cruelty to animals.

Notes to Editors:

  1. Mr Reid had been convicted at Dungannon Magistrates' Court of causing, procuring or permitting the causing of unnecessary suffering of a bovine animal contrary to section 13(g) of the Welfare of Animals (Northern Ireland) Act 1972.
  2. At the same hearing on 10 March 2008, Mr Reid had also been convicted of eighteen other charges, five relating to breeches of Animal Welfare legislation ,with the remainder arising from offences under legislation related to identification, registration and movement of bovine animals.
