06 May 2009 - Farmer convicted at Antrim court

Mr Sean Treacy, Aughnaglough, Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh, was convicted at Antrim Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 6 May 2009 of one charge under the Welfare of Animals (Northern Ireland) Act 1972 and one charge under the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006.

Mr Treacy pleaded guilty and was fined £500 plus £160 costs.

Notes to Editors:

1. Mr Treacy was convicted of one charge of causing unnecessary suffering to three bovine animals, contrary to section 13(g) of the Welfare of Animals (NI) Act 1972.

2. Mr Treacy was also convicted of one charge of transporting three bovine animals which were not fit for the journey, contrary to Article 6(3) of Council Regulation (EC)

No1/2005 and Regulation 6(c) of the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Regulations (NI) 2006.
