Gerard Rooney of Mayo Road, Mayobridge, Newry, was convicted at Newry Magistrates' Court on 5 November 2007 of two charges under the Cattle Identification (Enforcement) Regulations (NI) 1998, and the Animal By-Products Regulations (NI) 2003.
Mr. Rooney pleaded guilty and was fined £200 plus £196 costs.

- Mr. Rooney was convicted of one charge, of failing to keep a herd register as required by Regulation 3(4) of the Cattle Identification (Enforcement) Regulations (NI) 1998 in accordance with the form set out in the schedule to the said Regulations, contrary to Regulation 3(1) of the Cattle Identification (Enforcement) Regulations (NI) 1998.
- Mr. Rooney was convicted of one charge of failing to dispose of Category 2 material, namely sheep carcasses, as defined in Article 5(1) of Regulation (EC) No 1774/2002 without undue delay, as required by Article 5(2) of the said Regulation, contrary to Regulation 5(1) of the Animal By-Products Regulations (NI) 2003.
- Properly maintained cattle herd registers form an integral part of the cattle traceability system, supporting the accuracy and integrity of the Department’s Animal & Public Health Information System (APHIS) database.
