Gildernew opens Federation of Small Businesses Showjumping Festival
Friday, 4 September 2009Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew MP MLA, has officially opened the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Showjumping Festival at Necarne Castle, Irvinestown.
Around 600 horses and ponies will compete in the equine classes held during the event, which runs from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 September. The event will showcase the FSB 1.30m (S) Grand Prix that carries a prize fund of £1,800 and is also the final of the Ulster Grand Prix League.
The Minister met with representatives from the FSB, CTG Equestrian, Fermanagh District Council and a number of riders who were competing at the three day show.
Speaking at the event the Minister said: “The FSB Showjumping Festival is one of a range of equine events which the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development facilitates at Necarne. I would like to take this opportunity to commend the work of all the partners, as this event is an excellent example of what can be achieved by combining strengths and targeting resources for the ultimate benefit of the local community.
“The FSB Showjumping Festival offers visitors the opportunity to see both top-class showjumping. As well as offering a superb platform for the equine sector, events like this also give the public the opportunity to learn more about rural life and have an enjoyable day out.”

1. The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Showjumping Festival is in its second year. It is being held at Necarne for the first time having previously been held at Ecclesville Equestrian Centre, Fintona, Co Tyrone in 2008.
