Sports Minister Edwin Poots MLA has welcomed the decision by the IFA to reduce the size of its Executive Board from 18 to 11 members.
He said: “Last night’s decision to reduce the executive will enable the IFA to move towards a competence based board with a membership equipped with skills required by any modern business organisation. I have insisted that before the release of any further money from the £8million Soccer Strategy fund that the newly structured board should have the capability of running the business of football in the years to come. I am pleased that we have now reached that point.
“My department will now engage with Sport Northern Ireland on arrangements for the release of funding for the upgrading of facilities and support for the ongoing football development programme.”
