Commenting today, Sports Minister, Edwin Poots, MLA said: “The independent technical report published today describes the technical criteria used to assess the various sites brought forward by site owners following a public advertisement.
“The report will be available on the DCAL and SIB websites and I would encourage anyone with an interest in the matter to read it.”
NOTES TO EDITORS:
1. Following an announcement of the site appraisal exercise in May 2004 by Angela Smith, the then DCAL Minister, a Public Advertisement by the Strategic Investment Board (SIB) received 12 site responses.
2. All 12 sites were then placed on a formal long-list for an initial technical assessment on deliverability. The technical report also further assessed the short-listed sites assessed on cost and development potential.
3. Subsequently, following an assessment of acceptability to the three sports, only the Maze/Long Kesh site was deemed capable of delivering against all the criteria.
4. The report can be accessed on the DCAL website www.dcalni.gov.uk/index/sport.htm or on the SIB website http://www.sibni.org/industry-reports-and-events.htm
