24 June 2008 - River Bush Salmon Day

The River Bush Salmon Station is holding an open day on 4 July 2008.

Visitors will be able to find out about the work of the station and its contribution to the international effort to maintain and improve Salmon stocks in the North Atlantic.

Visitors will be given a guided tour of the facility. Tours will be taken every half hour starting at 10.00 with the last tour at 16.00.  The facility is accessible to the disabled but young children should be closely supervised.

Tours of the salmon hatchery will take place every half hour and visitors will be able to observe several of the stages of the salmon life cycle including fry hatched this spring and one year old Parr.

Hatchery staff who will accompany the tours are expert in Salmon conservation so visitors will have the opportunity to ask questions.

A more detailed talk on the work of the station and on the conservation of salmon will be given to those visitors with a particular interest. These will be limited by space to 25 persons and on a first come first served basis. Talks will be every hour commencing at 10.30 with the final one at 15.30. A handout is available for those particularly interested in the scientific work of the station.

Visitors should note that there are areas of deep, fast flowing water at the Salmon Station and they are therefore requested to follow the designated route and to listen to the safety advice of the guides at all times. All children should be accompanied by an adult.

Light refreshments will be served - admission is free.

The Bush Salmon Station is located at 21 Church Street, Bushmills, Co Antrim.
