Sports Minister wishes Northern Ireland football team well
Wednesday, 21 November 2007Sports Minister, Edwin Poots MLA has sent his best wishes to the Northern Ireland football team ahead of tonight's game against Spain in Gran Canaria.
He said: "I cannot be there in person but like thousands of fans, I will be with you in spirit!
"Northern Ireland did it 25 years ago and you can do it again. Gerry Armstrong was the star of that game scoring the winning goal and I'm hoping that David Healy can repeat his fantastic performance of last Saturday against Denmark, many times over.
"On behalf of everyone in Northern Ireland, I am sending best wishes to Nigel Worthington and to each of the players. Keep your cool, play your best and you will do it.
"I also send my best wishes to the Latvian team. Their performance against Sweden is crucial to Northern Ireland's position in future championship rounds. Like Northern Ireland, they are a small region competing against a football giant. I wish them well."
