Prior to the meeting, Ministers Éamon Ó Cuív and Edwin Poots met at the new Waterways Ireland Headquarters at Enniskillen to lay a stone at the foot of the building that is at present under construction. Both Ministers welcomed the progress on site and looked forward to completion of the building next year.
The Ministers also viewed the new Waterways Ireland office on the Shannon Erne Waterway at Ballyconnell. They commended Waterways Ireland on the continued development of facilities on the waterways.
The Ministers were then joined by Minister Conor Murphy at the Slieve Russell Hotel for the formal meeting. The agenda covered a number of Waterways Ireland’s business activities including an agreement on a framework for Waterways Ireland to take forward the restoration of the Clones-Upper Lough Erne section of the Ulster Canal. The Ministers welcomed the proposed development of the canal, which will provide a boost to the economic well-being of communities in the area north and south
After the meeting the Ministers visited Clones Canal Store where they met with local community representatives.
