Speaking at the opening of the 18th Annual exhibition of the Society, the Minister said: “Exhibitions such as this promote artists and help achieve a positive, quality image of our culture. Every artist brings something different in terms of subject matter, composition and individually distinctive style. Indeed, Leonardo Da Vinci himself coined the phrase ‘pastel’ and it has remained a popular medium for painting ever since.
“The vibrancy and colours used in pastel work complement the bright and energetic culture in Northern Ireland and I hope it will inspire people to add a splash of colour into their lives through art.”
The Minister visited the Island Arts Centre, Lisburn to preview the Pastel Society’s annual exhibition. With over 105 members, the Society was founded to promote the use of, and knowledge of, painting in pastel throughout Ireland.
The Minister continued: “It is my hope that through Societies such as this, we can encourage creativity and individuality in people of all ages. Northern Ireland as a whole can then reap the benefits of a more cultural and inspired society.”
