The Traveller Education Policy Project, established in 2007, is a partnership between An Munia Tober a Travelling community support group from Belfast and charity Save the Children.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Ruane said: “Children from the Travelling community for far too long have not had the same educational opportunities and the same educational provision as those from the settled community. As minister for all children, I believe in equality for all children and we need a targeted programme for our Traveller children.
“I had a very useful meeting with An Munia Tober and we discussed the best way of providing education to children from the Travelling community.”
Commenting on the education projects and the work An Munia Tober has been doing, the Education Minister said: “I would like to pay tribute to An Munia Tober and Save the Children. The work and dedication of An Munia Tober is invaluable in giving educational support to both children and adults from the Travelling community.”
