Conlig Primary school to close
Tuesday, 24 June 2008Education Minister Caitríona Ruane has announced that Conlig Primary School will close at the end of August 2008.
Commenting on the decision Ms Ruane said: “Conlig Primary School has served the local community for many years and will leave a good legacy. I recognise the excellent work it has carried out. I believe, however, that the long-term educational interests of the children concerned will be best served in a larger school, where they will be able to avail of a wider range of educational opportunities. There are sufficient places at nearby primary schools that can provide the children with these opportunities.”
In 2007/08, Conlig Primary School had only 43 pupils enrolled. Demographic decline has led to an over provision of primary school places in the Bangor area. There are currently 992 surplus places at the four nearest controlled primary schools, all within a three mile radius of the school.
