Young people must be listened to - Ruane
Monday, 8 June 2009Education Minister Caitríona Ruane met with the Youth Forum this afternoon to discuss their views raised during the consultation on the Department's Transfer 2010 guidance.
The Youth Forum is a youth-led organisation which provides a voice and campaigns for the rights of young people.
Speaking after the meeting, the Minister said: "I had a very constructive meeting with the young people from the Youth Forum. The views and opinions of young people are often overlooked in education debates, even though they have had the most recent experiences in an educational setting.
"I am fully committed to meeting as many stakeholders as possible regarding the Transfer 2010 guidance. The Youth Forum was one of many organisations which provided a response to the public consultation on Transfer 2010 which was open to everyone in the north of Ireland and I was keen to hear their thoughts on equality and other education issues first hand."
