10 March 2008 - Churches will have an important role in area planning groups - Ruane

Education Minister Caitríona Ruane has strongly refuted claims that Protestant churches will be excluded from the Area Based Planning Groups.

The Minister said: “I have spoken several times to senior representatives of the Protestant churches and they have publicly welcomed my assurances about their inclusion in the Area Based Planning Groups.

“I have clearly stated that this will be a fully inclusive process. The Area Based Planning Groups will have an important role in developing plans for post primary education in local areas. I am committed to ensuring that these plans provide a broad range of education choices to respond to parental demand in all areas.

“I am disappointed that some politicians are trying to cause concern where there is none.”
